Magnetic Island enjoys a warm, mostly sunny tropical climate that makes it a fantastic holiday destination year-round. Average maximum temperatures sit around 25°C in July and rise to about 32°C in December. Nights remain comfortable too, with lows of 14°C in winter and 24°C in mid-summer. The island also receives 40% less annual rainfall than Cairns and Port Douglas, making it one of tropical Queensland’s sunniest coastal locations.
Most rainfall occurs between January and March, when tropical downpours can be heavy yet short-lived. Even during these months, the island still sees plenty of sunny days, warm evenings and lush green landscapes. From April to December, conditions are typically dry with clear blue skies, although the chance of an afternoon thunderstorm increases in late spring. Winds are predominantly south-easterly from May to October, shifting north-easterly through summer.
